Abstract

The concept of information literacy (AI) has basically confined to the technical aspects and the use of information technology and communications. This vision has prevented a holistic vision regarding the role of information literacy in both teaching - learning, and society. This article aims to conduct a literature review and theoretical for understanding the evolution and transformation of the concept of information literacy as well as elements and criteria for its definition seen by different scholars. It was found that the development of Internet towards social Web 2.0 has been the major change that has led to the reconceptualization of information literacy. The literature review allowed deepen the concepts and theoretical foundations of literacy according to different criteria of different authors on the subject.
