Influencia de la enfermedad periodontal en la aterosclerosis
Resumen
Introducción: la enfermedad periodontal ha sido identificada como un factor de riesgo para enfermedades del corazón. La falta de hábitos de higiene bucal asociados a factores de riesgo puede conducir al desarrollo de periodontitis, lo que conducirá a un aumento de mediadores inflamatorios en la sangre, lo que es un riesgo potencial para el desarrollo del proceso de aterosclerosis. Objetivo: evaluar en la literatura la influencia de la enfermedad periodontal en las enfermedades cardiovasculares, especialmente en relación con la aterosclerosis. Método: consistió en una búsqueda en libros y artículos científicos, con la utilización de palabras clave asociadas, así como artículos seleccionados en las bases de datos SciELO, PubMed, Scopus, de lo cual se obtuvieron alrededor de 40 bibliografías, que fueron decantadas a 35, de ellas el 50 % actualizadas. Resultados: estudios de metaanálisis apoyan una relación causal entre la enfermedad periodontal y la cardiopatía, lo que demuestra que el riesgo de desarrollar algunas complicaciones vasculares se encontró aumentado en pacientes con problemas periodontales. Consideraciones finales: se hace relevante evaluar la relación de estas enfermedades y los mecanismos implicados, para poder elaborar medidas preventivas.
