Educational intervention on risks and complications of pregnancy in adolescents

Abstract

A study of educational intervention on risks and complications of pregnancy in adolescents belonging to the medical practice of La Tinta, municipality Maisí, Guantánamo, in the period 2009-2010. The universe is made up of 135 adolescents from the area; the sample for convenience is 41 adolescents. Qualitative variables are used: age, schooling, occupation, and marital status, source of knowledge about sexuality, optimal age for procreation, contraceptive methods, risks and complications of pregnancy. After the diagnosis is made the educational program, the form is applied: adolescents 15 - 19 year’s old, pre-university graduate, housewives, with a consensual union. Before the intervention the frequent risk was low birth weight, the complication threatened with abortion. The condom was the ideal method to avoid pregnancy. After the intervention they all know the risks, complications, methods to avoid pregnancy and the ideal age to procreate.
