Abstract

An educational and organizational intervention is done to strengthen the education in diabetes mellitus and the integral attention in diabetic elders at the policlinic “hermanos Martinez Tamayo”, 2010-2011. The sample of 45 patients was chosen according to inclusion criteria. The program combined the medical attention with the diabetics' school and integrated techniques of participation according to the skills model. The inadequate knowledge on diabetes mellitus was reverted with the intervention in life style, metabolic control and complications. The achievement of skills catalogued in the status “to be able to do” and the satisfaction was perceived as direct beneficiaries, endorses the good working of the intervention program. The practice acquires a tool of powerful and generalized intervention with a new medical care.
