Abstract

A study was carried out in the office No. 11 of the University Polyclinic '' Asdrúbal López Vázquez '' in January - December 2010, with the objective of developing an educational intervention to increase knowledge about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in teenagers. The study universe is made up of 250 adolescents. An intentional sample is taken at the convenience of 42 adolescents. The variables are used: age, sex and level of knowledge. Among the most relevant results is that the male gender predominates in the 15-19 age group. Before the intervention, only a few adolescents were aware of STIs, most of who were known after the intervention. The adolescents' learning needs are identified; the intervention program is designed and applied, obtaining an increase in the number of adolescents with knowledge about STIs, in relation to the initial moment.
