Abstract

A study was carried out in 43 patients attending the Otorhinolaryngology Service of the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "from Guantánamo, with a frontal sinus depressed fracture in the period between February 1982 and January 2012. The information was obtained from the review of the medical records. We study data on epidemiological variables, causes of trauma, surgical techniques, biomaterials, complications and cosmetic results. The most affected ages were 20 years and less and those between 21-30 and 31-40, with a predominance of males. The causes of these accidents were in order of frequency: traffic accidents, sports and quarrels. The most used bone materials for reconstruction were methylmethacrylate, autograft of the parietal bone and hydroxyapatite. The complications presented were pericranial hematoma, wound sepsis, graft mobility and extrusion and frontal depression.
