Introduction: the care and quality of life of older adults are receiving increasing attention, particularly within the family setting.
Objective: to identify and analyze the family components and the role of family networks that influence the perception of well-being and quality of life in older adults.
Method: a systematic literature review was conducted. The study focused on how family organization and relationships affect the emotional and physical health of this group. This included the identification and evaluation of relevant research published in recognized academic databases (Databases, Dimensions, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science), using rigorous criteria to include or exclude information in order to ensure the quality and relevance of the findings.
Results: the findings suggest that factors such as emotional support, the proximity of family ties, and the regularity of communication with loved ones have a significant impact on how older adults perceive their well-being. Furthermore, it was noted that having extensive and well-structured family networks increases the quality of life of older adults, acting as an essential resource for coping with loneliness and stress.
Conclusions: emotional and practical support, as well as socioeconomic status, directly influence the well-being of older adults. The strength and quality of family networks are crucial for maintaining a high quality of life at this stage of life.
