Family Medicine is one of the new disciplines that have emerged in the evolution of medical history due to a social need, it contains in its essence the visualization of what would later be called the biopsychosocial model, a pillar of family medicine and a model adapted in the world.
The Family Doctor and Nurse Program or 120 Family Doctor Plan, also known as Family Medicine or Comprehensive General Medicine in Cuba, began in 1984, in response to the new public health needs to resolve the great health problems demanded by the Cuban population. That same year its implementation began in the Guantánamo municipality, extending in 1986 to all the territories of this province.
That is why the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Guantánamo held the XIX Provincial Conference of the Chapter of Family Medicine, within the framework of its 40th Anniversary, where it culminated with the publication of a thematic supplement to commemorate such a historic date of Cuban public health.
