Abstract

The pharyngostoma or Pharyngocutaneous fistula was detected clinically by the appearance simultaneously with saliva swallowing in the neck. A study on morbidity pharyngostoma in the Department of Otolaryngology, at General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "in Guantanamo is done . The study group consists of 65 patients who underwent total laryngectomy in the period 2001 to 2010, settling two groups taking into account the presence or absence of pharyngostoma complicating and in order to identify the incidence and predisposing factors in their appearance. Data were obtained from medical records taking into account the epidemiological variables, nutritional status, prior radiation treatment or tracheotomy, sutures and postoperative stay. Fistulas were present in 18.46% of cases, of which 58.3% had received prior radiotherapy and surgery as tracheotomy 66.6%, the mean postoperative stay was 21 days.
