Abstract

A study was carried out to diagnose the level of knowledge of Family Physicians belonging to the University Policlinic "Mártires del 4 de Agosto" of Guantánamo, regarding the use of Salvia officinalis L in the treatment of climacteric syndrome, after determination of the content of phytoestrogens from their leaves. The sample of the plant was taken in three municipalities of the province. The universe was of 223 doctors who work in the Primary Care of Guantanamo municipality, being the sample constituted by 89 doctors, who are applied a survey on the use of phytotherapy. There was insufficient knowledge of the use of medicinal plants and, specifically, the plant under study. The results obtained evidenced that Salvia officinalis L presents a high phytoestrogen content for the phytochemical screening in San Antonio del Sur, this is a valid alternative in the therapy of replacement or preventive treatment of several pathologies proper to the disease without adverse effects.
