Abstract

An investigation is carried out in the population of the hypertensive elderly over 60 years of both sexes of "Barrio Nuevo" practice, Guarenas, Venezuela, from May to November 2008. The universe is constituted by 110 adults older than one and another sex, with some degree of hypertension, according to their personal medical history. The sample is formed by 50 elders representing 45% of the universe, selected by random sampling, and with the consent of each one of them. This work aims to determine the nutritional status of hypertensive older adults. The initial diagnosis is based on the application and interpretation of research instruments, developing socio-educational actions on nutrition to raise the quality of life of older adults, using anthropometric variables such as: age, sex, and nutritional status, type of treatment, knowledge and knowledge of family nutrition.
