Abstract

In this work a brief historical sequence of Coloproctology is made from its onset to the present and what it means the introduction of the endoscopy, detailing its undeniable advances in different spheres. The main conceptions on which the specialty is based, considering a set of reflections made from the point of view of the authors who agree that the essential problem lies in the ethical and bioethical problems that occur in the exercise of the profession. Current considerations are offered on the ethical dilemmas that colorectal surgeons, issue illustrated with some of the most repeated manifestations of the problem they face, to reflect on the need to assess, from the broad concept of the current bioethical thought, Decisions that are made in professional performance, whose consequences are dubious or leave much to be desired, regardless of whether they have been made with the best intentions.
