Ethical Considerations

Revista Información Científica applies the good practices promoted by the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), any ethical violation related to the study or research will be resolved using these protocols.

The research presented must comply with all the ethical declarations for the types of studies, whether in humans or in animals (Declaration of Helsinki).

Conflict of interests

Public confidence in the peer review process and the credibility of published articles depends in part on how conflicts of interest are addressed before and during the editorial process.

A conflict of interest exists when an author(s) (or the institution to which they belong), reviewer(s), or editor have personal or financial relationships that may interfere with or influence their judgments in relation to the preparation, evaluation, or publication of a manuscript.

The most common are of financial cause, but other more subtle ones can be observed, such as academic rivalry or intellectual passion. If there is a conflict of interest in any of the actors: authors, reviewers or editors, it must be reported in writing.

RIC requires that authors explicitly disclose those conflicts of interest that may have been present in the development of their work. The idea is not to prevent authors with potential conflicts of interest from publishing; it is that such conflicts can be clearly identified, so that the reviewers and, above all, the readers, can judge if the authors could be affected by some predisposition, perhaps influential in the work.

Plagiarism Detection Policy

The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) considers that plagiarism includes: “Both the theft or misappropriation of intellectual property and the substantial unattributed textual copying of another's work”. "The theft or misappropriation of intellectual property includes the unauthorized use of ideas or unique methods obtained by a privileged communication, such as a grant or manuscript review."

All the articles received in RIC are verified by the editors before and during their publication process by using tools like Google, Urkund and TinEye to detect possible plagiarism.

The reviewers and members of the Editorial Committee can also detect the occurrence of this bad practice.

All similarities with other documents, regardless of the percentage shown by the Urkund report during its review and processing, will be analyzed by a specialist. Articles found with a level equal to or less than 20% similarity will be accepted as long as they are approved by said specialist. If it is higher than 20%, the author will be notified and the article will be rejected to make the necessary modifications. On the other hand, if the percentage exceeds 50%, the article will be completely rejected without the right to resend.

RIC sanctions plagiarism and fraudulent data in documents; publishing the same article in more than one journal; copying and using textual information from any document; using data, images and other resources without the authorization of all the natural or legal authors of the work; the use of information that has not been consulted from the original source by some of the authors of the document; modifying or misrepresenting the meaning and context of the information contained in other works; as well as any other inappropriate use that alters the integrity of the information . In the event that the similarity matches 100%, the author(s) will be penalized for three years (minimum penalty) without the possibility of publishing in RIC.

Readers are kindly requested to inform the publishing house of RIC in case of plagiarism detection, by sending the article title, author(s) name(s), volume, number and year of publication to our email.

RIC does not support any form of plagiarism. Therefore, we recommend reviewing the content of your article before submitting it, as well as paying careful attention to the use of citations and bibliographic references.

We recommend reading Avoiding plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and other questionable writing practices: A guide to ethical writing by Miguel Roig.

The editors of RIC are ready to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when necessary.
