Stem cell transplantation in external ocular surface conditions
Keywords:
stem cells, limbal insufficiency, limbal transplantationAbstract
Transplantation of stem cells is an effective therapeutic weapon in the hands of all ophthalmologists. The application and standardization of the technique opens new perspectives to the treatment of pathologies that previously had no solution and that diminish the quality of life of the patients, avoiding in many of them to achieve the optical transplant and, in others, improving the prognosis of such surgery. Corneal-conjunctival burns by chemical agents are one of the most frequent causes of limbal, partial or total insufficiency with the consequent decrease of visual acuity.Downloads
