Abstract

Given the suspicion of acute appendicitis, ultrasound is the ideal method, easy access, low cost and high sensitivity "is considered the first option." The most precise indication in young patients, especially in women in whom gynecological pathology (rupture of follicular cysts, ovarian torsions, ectopic pregnancies) is frequently caused by false positives. An elderly patient in whom the clinical picture and physical examination may be atypical is the other group in the population where the ultrasound is indicated. The ultrasound findings are reviewed.
