Abstract

Zinc deficiency appears within the concept of "hidden hunger", and highlights the importance of prophylaxis and adequate and timely correction established in the malnourished child and the eutrophic. Despite the proven benefits of proper nutrition with zinc, approximately 2 billion people remain at risk for this deficiency. A comprehensive bibliographic review is performed with the aim of addressing some physiological, etiological, prophylactic and therapeutic use. Just as its main natural sources, its effect related to malnutrition and deficiency manifestations, conventional forms of presentation and dosage.
