Abstract

It addresses the individual efforts of some scientists to ensure a better quality of life for the population, in a society marked by inequalities and economic-social and political dependence of powers with a higher level of development. For the accomplishment of the work the method of the hermeneutics is used, taking into account the bibliographical revision, to arrive at the conclusion that between 1899-1925 the scientific and technological development of the country was slow, due to the serious social problems that existed in to the health of the people; a period in which the individual effort of relevant scientists linked to medicine was highlighted, without the official support of the state achieving satisfactory results in branches such as :epidemiology, parasitology and to a lesser extent in others such as :urology, surgery and ophthalmology.
