Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with digestive symptoms

Abstract

A study was carried out to characterize the behavior of Helicobacter Pylori infection in patients with digestive symptoms of Guantanamo province during the period September 2009 to September 2010. The study universe consists of 370 patients consulted and diagnosed the General Teaching Hospital “Dr. Agostinho Neto ". The sample is of 114 patients randomly selected. Variables are studied: age, sex, origin, toxic habits, endoscopic diagnosis, and digestive symptoms. Patients with Helicobacter pylori positive are predominant in the group between 46 and 60 years of age with predominance of males. The contingency coefficient shows a low level of correlation between these. Infection in patients residing in rural areas with a high correlation coefficient is more frequent. There is a high presence of toxic habits with a low correlation coefficient between these and Helicobacter pylori infection.
