Abstract

A descriptive study was carried out in the "Ramón López Peña" University Polyclinic in Caimanera with the purpose of identifying some biopsychosocial aspects of old age during the period January and July 2010. A random sample of 150 elderly patients 60 years to which a form prepared for the purpose is applied and the battery of 4 scales elaborated by Andrews and Whitney, to measure the subjective well-being. The variables were studied: general characterization data, aspects related to toxic habits, pathological and personal antecedents of non-transmissible chronic diseases, main psychosocial difficulties. Prevalence is found between the ages of 60 and 72, female. The most frequent toxic habit is the consumption of coffee, the arterial hypertension, main affection in the elderly. Subjective well-being is assessed as high in all areas studied, with health and the economy most affected.
