Corrective otoplasty technique in prominent ears

Abstract

In order to analyze the aesthetic result obtained with the novel technique of otoplasty of the authors, a descriptive study was carried out in 70 patients who attended the Plastic Surgery and caumatology Service of the General Teaching Hospital "Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja" de Baracoa, in a period of 8 years, from March 2004 to March 2012. The information is obtained from the medical history and a form. The need for scraping of the perichondrium in the anterior aspect of the ear for the formation of the antehélix is alerted; in the rotation and anchoring of the shell by means of permanent sutures with the resection of the posterior auricular muscle, without reductive resections of the cartilage, for the treatment of the shell; and in the hidden scar in the retroauricular groove. The highest incidence is manifested in the group of 15 to 24 years. The sex that prevails is the masculine with good esthetic result of general form and without complications. 100% of the patients were satisfied.
