Abstract

A study was carried out in 25 patients who were discharged from the General Surgery service, who underwent distal pancreatectomy due to suffering from a disease susceptible to perform this surgical technique, during the period between January 1982 and December 2012 (30 years) . The primary data is obtained from the medical records. We studied the sex, age, causes and complications of this surgical technique. The average age is 36 years with a DS ± 15 with a range between 14-68 years. Female gender predominates; epithelial cysts reach the first place in incidence followed by chronic pancreatitis. The pancreatic stump of the 25 patients was closed manually. Only 1 patient had a pancreatic fistula.
