Abstract

A study was carried out to determine the epidemiological behavior of skin cancer at the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "of Guantánamo, during the triennium 2009-2011. 100% of the biopsies performed in the period are reviewed. The study universe consists of 754 patients with a diagnosis of skin cancer, who presented a total of 764 lesions. At first, epidemiological variables that show a slight predominance of males are evaluated; the predominant age group is over 70 years, white skin, and urban origin. The results are presented in tables and graphs of frequency distribution, using the absolute number and percentage as the statistical method. It also provides a brief bibliographic review of the topic. White skin patients and those over 70 years of age are the ones with the highest incidence. Men are more affected than women. The urban origin predominated over the rural one.
