Abstract

A study was carried out at the Guantanamo Provincial Legal Medicine Center, with the purpose of characterizing the accidents in older adults occurred in Guantanamo Province in the years 2008-2009. The universe is constituted by the totality of elderly people who died of violent death (94 cases) from which the sample is derived by selection criteria: the possibility of access to the statistical information of the Provincial Legal Medicine Center, that data contained in the autopsies be complete in terms of the variables proposed for the investigation and that death were accidental (60 cases). We study the variables: type of accidental death, type of fall, types of traffic accident, accident site. As a result, the main causes of death were falls. The street was the place of occurrence that prevailed, followed very closely by the home.
