Abstract

An investigation is carried out on 55 habitual snorers in the period between January and December 2011, in the Otorhinolaryngology service at the General Hospital"Dr. Agostinho Neto "with the objective of characterizing the clinical and epidemiological aspects of the same. Age, sex, smoking, and body mass index were considered, among others. Clinical characteristics were determined, such as: cognitive, sleep, sexual disorders; symptoms, otorhinolaryngological physical examination and electrocardiographic records. Prevalence is the age group of 51-60 years and the male sex. The most frequent symptoms are pharyngeal ardor and nasal obstruction. The physical examination predominated: pharynx, combined conditions, and in the nostrils, septal deviation. More than half of the snorers were overweight with cardiovascular disease. Smoking, ingestion of alcoholic beverages, psychotropic drugs and antihistamines apparently did not modify cognitive or sleep disorders.
