Clinical-spirometric aspects in patients with smoking habit

Abstract

A study was carried out with the 120 smokers from Guantanamo Polyclinic University Omar Ranedo Pubillones in the period January-December 2010, with the purpose of describing the main clinical-spirometric alterations of these patients. The variables to be used were: age, sex, number of cigarettes, years of smoker, spirometric pattern, forced expiratory volume results in one second (FEV1) and associated symptoms. Surveys are conducted and a probabilistic sample is selected at the author's convenience. Patients in the age group of 45-54 years were the predominant male smokers, moderate smokers between 10-20 years of age with smoking and obstructive pattern. The most frequent alteration of the FEV1 found was of moderate intensity and with dyspnea predominant symptom of effort.
