Abstract

Trabeculectomy is generally a successful procedure to reduce intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma. However, failure of the filtration ampoule may occur, causing an increase in intraocular pressure; which leads to an additional medical or surgical intervention. A brief bibliographic review on transconjunctival cystotomy, associated or not with the use of antimetabolites (mitomycin C or 5-fluorouracil) is made, demonstrating that it is a minimally invasive procedure, with few complications; which is an effective, easy, inexpensive method to restore aqueous drainage and decrease intraocular pressure.
