Abstract

An observational and retrospective study was carried out to characterize the congenital malformations of the central nervous system in fetuses and the maternal determinants of development associated with them during the period 2006-2010 at Guantanamo. The universe is made up of 61 pregnant women whose fetuses are diagnosed with malformations of the Central Nervous System. The data are obtained from the medical records filed at the Provincial Genetics Center. Malformations are diagnosed mainly in the years 2007 and 2010, highlighting anencephaly and hydrocephalus. Predominant mothers of rural origin, with ages from 18 to 35 years and polytechnic or pre-university education. Lack of folic acid intake from mothers. Prior to gestation. Was found to be the most identified maternal determinant in the onset of congenital malformations of the central nervous system.
