Abstract

Pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is the leading cause of maternal mortality related to gestation in developed countries. Age over 35 and black race are the most important risk factors. Requires prolonged treatment with low molecular weight heparin in confirmed PTE; Vitamin K antagonists are not recommended during the first and third trimesters. All diagnostic modalities, including computed tomography (CT), can be used without significant risk to the fetus.
