Keywords:

An educational intervention in adolescents of Barrio Bicentenario II, parish Miguel Peña, was carried out between May 2006 and January 2007 to modify knowledge about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Of 250 adolescents, 90 were selected by random sampling, initially a questionnaire was prepared with the variables age, sex, knowledge of the disease, prevention and correct use of the condom, applied before the intervention, then educational activities are carried out with the groups formed ; The questionnaire was applied again 6 months after the intervention was completed, and it was determined that initially adolescents had inadequate knowledge and after the intervention improved their knowledge. It is concluded that the low level of knowledge is related to insufficient educational activities carried out in the neighborhood, demonstrating that this intervention is effective in providing knowledge to adolescents; it is recommended to increase health actions in the knowledge of STIs.Downloads
