Abstract

A study was conducted from September 2004 to September 2009 to describe the behavior of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in 41 patients diagnosed with this disease in the retina at the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "of Guantánamo. Qualitative and quantitative variables such as: sex, gestational age at birth, birth weight, age of onset of the disease, risk factors, stage and treatment are analyzed. For the collection of the information, the ROP form is used. Descriptive statistics methods are employed. The male sex was the most affected. Signs of ROP are found at 36-42 weeks of preconceptional age and spontaneous regression of disease predominates in the study. The importance of continuing to work with at-risk groups is evident
