Behavior of Adrenal Gland tumors at the General Teaching Hospital Guantanamo

Abstract

A case-control study was done in 8 patients diagnosed with suprarenal tumor in General Surgery at the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "Guantanamo, during the years 2005 -2009. Recorded variables such as etiology, location, symptoms, surgical approaches and complications of surgery with the aim of characterizing aspects of interest related to morbidity and mortality from this disease. Supra renal tumors were more influenced in females. Lumbar pain was predominated in patients and the most affected side was right. It was found that in the largest number of patients, the etiology of the tumors were benign, suprarenal adenomas and pheochromocytomas. Adrenalectomy was the predominant and surgical procedure with the exception of one case which also was applied nephrectomy.
