Abstract

Objective: To determine the influence of some risk factors for low birthweight at the Polyclinic "Mártires 4 de agosto, Guantánamo, 2008. Methods: A study of case-control was done to 25 mothers who had babies with low birth weight belonging to, two basic groups of clinic work. Just one control group was presented, which was composed by 50 mothers that had not underweight children at the same time period within the same health area with a 1:2 ratio. Results: A significant bivariate form of regular and poor socioeconomic status, smoking, moderately functional families. Conclusions: The poor economic status, smoking, moderately functional families, are risk factors for the occurrence of low birth weight.
