Clinical and epidemiological behavior of accidents at home

Abstract

A study was done at the Teaching Pediatric Hospital General Pedro Agustín Pérez "in Guantanamo, to examine the clinical and epidemiological behavior of home accidents during March 2008 - March 2009. The universe is made up of 604 patients treated at emergency, which are applied domestic surveys. Different variables were studied: age, sex, and type of accident, type of injury, scene of the accident, the accident consequences and end criteria for parents about prevention of accident. It was found that the evening was the time where the accidents occurred mostly with male sex. Falls in the courtyard with the incidence of wounds and bruises were more registered. The mayority of children with their mothers and more than half considered avoidable accidents. Conclusions and recommendations are issued.
