Abstract

A study of diabetes was done in fertile age (15-49 years), assested by Care Diabetic Patient center (CAD) of Guantanamo, in order to meet the metabolic control and method of contraception. The medical records are reviewed taking into account the last year, obtaining qualitative and quantitative variables: type of diabetes, body mass index, and specific blood glucose measurements taken through the follow-up visit during the year. Wanted complications and treatment, such as the presence of contraception. There is evidence of overweight and obesity in diabetes mellitus as well as poor metabolic control, the latter more frequent in patients as unique therapeutic with insulin. Sterilization was found as a contraceptive method more frequently. This raises need to improve the metabolic control of diabetes that allows to search the real moment to get pregnant.
