Operational research is developed in the laboratory of Microbiology of the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology at Guantanamo in 2008, with the aim of introducing technological improvements in the microbiological diagnosis of lower respiratory infections from the sputum sample, to reduce the limitations and controversies related to this diagnosis. This new design is introduced, the sample changed sputum and other sputum features, such as appearance, fetid, presence of leukocytes and pseudohyphae. It is possible to obtain more secure and integrated information on the isolated pathogen and anatomical site that is offering the physician; s tools to decide what action must be taken.
