Abstract

Osteoarthritis of the knee is a degenerative disease that most often afflict our patients; causing pain associated with disability. A prospective research at the Policlinic "Emilio Daudinot Bueno" for the northern area of themunicipalityofGuantanamo, in order to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion in the pain of osteoarthritis of the knee was performed. It was sampled 60 patients divided into two groups of 30, through simple random sampling, statistical Chi square test to compare differences in the variables (Evaluation of pain, pain behavior, response category scale and use of analgesics) analyzed was applied and was divided into 12 sessions of acupuncture or moxibustion for pain relief. The behavior of the use of NSAIDs in patients treated with both techniques and pain assessment visual analog scale of 0-10 was used was studied.
