Giant lipomas. Presentation of a case in Haiti

Abstract

The lipoma is a benign tumor of adipose tissue cells. A variety is the 'Molluscum pendulum "which are large lipomas coated with skin hanging down pendulum from the skin surface and appear especially in groin and armpits. They are extremely unsightly, ulcerate easily and must be surgically removed. A patient is presented at the Orthopedics office sent by the Cuban Medical Brigade in Haiti by presenting increasing volume in the region of the left hip with 4 years of evolution, difficult for dressing. Physical examination and complementary tests is performed. The clinical diagnosis of giant lipoma arises. The patient undergoes surgical treatment with excision and biopsy of the lesion that was performed, too. The diagnosis was confirmed by pathology.
