Abstract

A study was performed to determine the main causes of morbidity and mortality in elderly patients in the Intermediate Care Service at General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "1 393 patients were admitted in the period of study January ,1st and  December 31st ,2013 .The variables were analyzed:. Age, sex, diagnosis at admission and discharge, complications, death and diagnosis pathology’s leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients over 65 years was :the bacterial bronchopneumonia followed by cerebrovascular diseases and heart. Major complications were phlebitis and hypostatic bronchopneumonia, which dominated the deceased, performed 289 necropsies. This index is considered low although clinic pathological high correlation.
