Abstract

An educational intervention is done in order to provide knowledge related to gastric cancer and its prevention, aiming to determine the prevalence of gastric cancer in biopsies performed in the department of video endoscopy at the Center for High Technology "Medarda Piñero" Táchira state, Venezuela, from February 2012 to February 2013. The population consisted of 292 patients, of which 46 were positive for malignancy. Information is obtained through direct patients with endoscopic biopsies interview. A greater number of cases diagnosed with gastric carcinoma and intestinal type gastric carcinoma followed by diffuse type are revealed. in patients diagnosed with intestinal-type gastric cancer were observed , as well as the host's own findings follicular gastritis and intestinal metaplasia making  a range of factors clearly related to the development of this type of neoplasm. Diffuse type carcinomas were common in women with a ratio of 7:1 affecting mostly young and with blood group type A positive no evidence with respect to environmental and host factors themselves.
