Nursing intervention in patients with leptospirosis in ICU

Abstract

A study was carried out in the Intensive Care Unit at the General Teaching Hospital Dr. ¨ Agostinho Neto ¨ Guantanamo, in order to clarify the behavior of the nursing intervention in patients with leptospirosis during 2008-2011. Age, sex, and occupation, clinical manifestations of the disease, complications, patient outcomes and nursing interventions applied to patients in the intensive care unit: the variables are studied. The highest percentages of patients were ages between 30 and 44 year-old and male. It was common that these patients should be played agricultural work. Relevant symptoms were: fever, myalgia, headache and the common signs were: conjunctival injection and jaundice. Acute renal failure and liver failure were the most frequent complications. The largest number of patients evolved satisfactorily. Nursing interventions were in receipt of more patients, performing antipyretic measures, care in patients with artificial mechanical ventilation (CMV) and completion of hemodialysis.
