Abstract

A study was carried out to characterize aspects of interest related to the morbidity of patients treated surgically for inguinal hernia at Guantanamo General Teaching Hospital "Agostinho Neto" in the general surgery service during the period January 2005 - December 2010 The study universe consists of 1 222 patients diagnosed and operated on inguinal hernia. The variables studied were: sex, Nyhus classification, techniques used, type of anesthesia and complications. The information is collected in a prepared form in this respect, are recorded data obtained later are codified and stored in a database. Male predominates. The type of hernia grade 3 is the most frequent. The most used technique is the Bassini. Most patients are operated under local anesthesia. The predominant complication is hernia recurrence. Conclusions are issued.
