Introduction: gingivitis is one of the most common oral diseases in the world caused by multiple factors such as hormonal changes, smoking or accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar due to poor oral hygiene. Gingivitis can be related to anxiety, which is a mental disorder that prevents lead a normal life and maintain hygiene habits or a good mood as certain studies show. Objective: determine the prevalence of gingivitis in patients with a diagnosis of anxiety in a public hospital in Ibarra. Method: a non-experimental research was carried out, mixed with a quantitative and qualitative approach; longitudinal retrospective-prospective. A survey and questionnaire were applied to obtain specific and accounting results about the knowledge and opinions of the dental staff of the Regional Autonomous University of Los Andes. The clinical records and HSVP patient database from the period January – December 2021 were reviewed to obtain clinical data that evidence the gingivitis-anxiety relationship. Results: in the population of patients with a diagnosis of anxiety, 10% were accompanied by a diagnosis of gingivitis. Conclusions: although there is a relationship between anxiety and gingivitis, several articles contradict each other, some show significant associations and others do not find an association as such. However; In existing studies there are quite clear aspects regarding the association of these pathologies such as poor oral hygiene, evasive behavior due to anxiety regarding dental treatments and a poor mood to maintain daily routines.
