Abstract

Introduction: the first risk factor in pregnancy is age. It is known that this variable can allow good fetal development or high-risk development that sometimes threatens the lives of both beings. Objective: to develop a program to promote a culture of risk prevention in pregnant women in a health unit in the province of Carchi, Ecuador. Method: a descriptive, observational and transversal research was carried out. The study population was made up of 172 pregnant women, with a predominance of: age group between 20 and 29 years, level of primary school education, married marital status, salary level equivalent to a minimum wage, having had between 2 and 3 births, having between 2 and 3 children, being between the second and third month of pregnancy and having had between 1 and 3 prenatal check-ups. Results: there was a high percentage of women with at least one obstetric risk factor, which corresponds to the epidemiological characteristics of women of reproductive age. Women begin prenatal care in the first trimester of pregnancy and receive the established recommended number of care. Births occur in different health homes and, to a lesser extent, home births. Conclusions: the program to promote a culture of risk prevention in pregnant women will help combat weak compliance with education and prevention programs; the low level of education and the lack of knowledge of the importance of prenatal care.
