Abstract

In order to characterize acute myocardial infarction in patients in Guantánamo municipality, a longitudinal descriptive study is developed with patients who had this diagnosis in the period between January and December 2012. The sample studied is 101 cases, The main variables were: demographic, coronary risk factors, location of the infarct and its most frequent complications, as well as the application of thrombolytic treatment. For statistical processing, the arithmetic percentage method is used. It is concluded that the average age was 65.7 years, male predominates, and the inferior location. The most common risk factors were: hypertension, smoking, arrhythmias and ventricular dysfunction. The main cause of non-application of thrombolysis was hemodynamic instability.
