Abstract

A study was carried out to characterize the patients who receive the permanent pacemaker implant as a therapeutic option to improve the electrical conduction of the heart, in the Cardiology Service of the Teaching Hospital "Dr. Agostinho Neto "from Guantanamo, during the period 2010-2011. Variables of interest, both demographic and clinical, are selected: age, sex, recorded complications, electrocardiographic alterations, approaches, baseline heart disease. The study universe consists of 340 patients with permanent pacemaker insertion, a representative sample of 277 patients is selected, who come to this service. Syncope is the most common symptom, as is third-degree atrioventricular block. Sclerodegenerative disease of the conduction system is the most frequent etiological diagnosis. The left cephalic vein is the most commonly used route. Medial and septic complications were the most frequent.
