Clinical and epidemiological aspects of cholera in Guantanamo

Abstract

A study to describe clinical and epidemiological aspects of cholera in the province of Guantánamo is done from October 2012 to February 2013. 377 cases were diagnosed in that period and different variables were studied, such as: predominant symptoms, type of dehydration, number of cholera cases by months, rates of incidence by cities, time in course between the date of onset of symptoms and admission, delayed time in medical care received on patients according to age groups and health status besides, delayed time in medical care and health status reported by doctors. Diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration were the predominant symptoms. Predominant number of cases was admitted 24 hours after; patients had started with the symptoms that were reported as serious, with the highest incidence in young adults.
