Abstract

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease with multiple clinical manifestations. It is caused by several species of protozoa belonging to the genus Leishmania, transmitted by the bite of female sandflies of the genus Lutzomyia. The most frequent clinical finding is the presence of a well-defined lesion at the pitting point of an infected vector. It is  presented the case of a 23-year-old patient from an urban area, where the disease started as a small and unique papular lesion of the neck, painful, enlarged and ulcerated, so that it could be Compatible with other clinical entities. Clarification of the epidemiological clinical history allowed the indication of a smear for the identification of Leishmania, whose result reported the presence of 1 to 10 parasites per field, compatible with leishmaniasis. Treatment with Glucantime was given at a dose of 20 mg / kg / day for 20 days, obtaining the remission of the clinical picture.
