Behavior of senile cataract treated by the technique of Blumenthal

Abstract

A descriptive, longitudinal study is done, in order to determine the behavior of senile cataract surgery by the Blumenthal technique in the service of Ophthalmology, at the General Teaching Hospital "Agostinho Neto" Guantanamo from January to December 2012. The universe consists of all senile cataract patients operated during the period that carried out the inclusion criteria, 711 patients and 763 eyes. Among the most important results can be highlighted: predominance of females, ages 60-69 years in both sexes. The number of complications was low, the most common complication during surgery was posterior capsule rupture without vitreous output, and immediate postoperative, striate keratopathy was late and posterior capsule opacity. Visual acuity was achieved between 0.6 and 1 in over 98% of the interventions and there was a significant induced astigmatism, which indicates a high level of technical efficiency Blumenthal.
