Abstract

A descriptive work is carried out in the first Guantánamo Provincial Grandparents' House with the purpose of characterizing the cognitive-affective state of the elderly during 2010. The universe is constituted by the totality of the seminary elders. The following variables are studied: causes of income, macrosocial and microsocial risk factors, cognitive and affective status. The primary data comes from the clinical histories and interviews. It was obtained as results that the main cause of income was the fact of not having relatives who take care of them adequately, being this also a microsocial risk that has negative repercussions. The loss of social roles is macrosocial risk. Most of the elderly do not have cognitive impairment but do have some degree of depression, although usually mild.
