Abstract

The presence of an unusual number of canals in the maxillary first molar might be thought to be not common at all, but there have been reports for several years that indicate between one and eight canals. The presence of four ducts is 95% so it is not considered unusual. Despite this, the presence of six canals with different positions, quantities and types of internal configuration in each root have mostly been recorded. In this case, the objective was to describe the endodontic treatment of an upper first molar with three mesial canals, two distal canals and one palatal canal. The ideal treatment should be performed under a microscope and an endodontic tomography, but with the use of magnifying loupes and a correct radiographic technique in each step of the treatment, the intervention of all the internal anatomical components that the teeth may present with these variations.
